Ahead of the Latin American Music Awards where Becky G will receive the new “Evolution Award,” she sat down with Billboard to talk about her journey since being signed at the age of 14 to now at age 22, when she releases her first full album, Mala Santa.
In the interview Becky talks about why the album is named Mala Santa. She says that people got to know her as a young and innocent soul, and have seen her grow into a woman. Some have had a hard time accepting the growth, which is why she felt Mala Santa was the perfect title. Becky feels like she’s the industry’s Mala Santa.
She adds that the 8-year journey from the time she was signed to now inspired much of the content behind the release of her first album in which she honors her past by including some older tracks as bonuses – “Sin Pijama,” “Mayores” and “Cuando Te Bese,”
Becky, who was born in the US, comes from Mexican roots. She features lyrics in both Spanish and English.
Mala Santa releases today, Thursday October 17th, just ahead of the Latin American Music Awards which will air live tomorrow.
