The Center for Disease Control (CDC) issued a warning to the American public saying the coronavirus outbreak is likely to spread to the US.

“It’s not so much a question of if this will happen anymore, but more really a question of when it will happen — and how many people in this country will have severe illness,” commented Dr. Nancy Messonnier of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. She also said that the federal quarantine and the travel restrictions won’t be enough to stop it from migrating to America.

CDC Principal Deputy Director Dr. Anne Schuchat added that the outbreak will likely soon become a pandemic.

The Chinese-sourced infection is increasingly a global problem with South Korea, Italy, Iran and Japan experiencing significant infections rates. In South Korea, a US soldier was infected. So far, 14 cases have been identified in the US.

The CDC recommends regularly washing one’s hands with soap and water and staying home if you have any symptoms. They add that surgical masks are not actually an effective form of protection.
