On Thursday, two of the most influential stars in the LatinX community announced on their respective social media accounts that they would be performing at the 2020 Super Bowl halftime show in Miami. Jennifer Lopez and Shakira will light up the stage in February.
In a press release for the halftime show Lopez shared that this was a childhood dream. “Ever since I saw Diana Ross fly off into the sky at the Halftime Show, I dreamed of performing at the Super Bowl. And now it’s made even more special not only because it’s the NFL’s 100th anniversary, but also because I am performing with a fellow Latina. I can’t wait to show what us girls can do on the world’s biggest stage.”
Shakira echoed Lopez saying, “so honored to be taking on one of the world’s biggest stages in the company of a fellow female artist to represent Latinos and Latinas from the U.S. and all over the world, and to top it off, on my birthday!”
Miami is a city steeped in Latin influence. These two stars are a fitting selection by the Super Bowl production team. With J-Lo and Shakira rocking the stage, this halftime show promises to be a purely Latin combination of spicy and sexy.
