Companies such as Comcast, Warner Media and Walt Disney are trying to compete with Netflix in their video streaming services. In order to do this, they are looking at the rights to use Seinfeld, a hugely famous retired comedy show which is has its streaming rights up for sale again. Seinfeld  has been available for streaming on Hulu since 2015. Retired shows with well-established fame are heavily competed over between streaming companies; these shows include not only Seinfeld, but also the Office and Friends. Netflix has given much trouble to the traditional TV industry by offering a streaming alternative to the traditional method of distribution.

Hulu’s ownership of streaming rights to Seinfeld ends in 2021. Sony Pictures Television handles the distribution of streaming rights to Seinfeld. The company is already getting calls about these rights. The bidding process for the Seinfeld streaming rights is expected to begin in the next few weeks. Netflix has already been beat by competition for streaming rights for the Office and Friends. NBCUniversal bought streaming rights for the Office for the next five years for $500 million. Warner Media paid $425 million for five years of streaming rights over Friends. The future will show how much profit these streaming rights will generate for these massive companies.

Real Madrid is one of the biggest soccer clubs in the world, with a tremendous amount of pedigree, history, and money. They are known for purchasing the best players in the world, in their prime, for enormous fees, and it’s paid off with titles over the years, especially during the Christiano Ronaldo era. While this strategy has paid off with silverware, it hasn’t always left their financial situation in great standing, or their image for developing players.

Like Real Madrid, Netflix is looking to buy up all the best players as well. It is just a different kind of player, the best titles and producers for streaming. In 2017 Netflix paid $100 million dollars for Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Shonda Rhimes who left ABC. They paid $300 million dollars for Ryan Murphy of American Horror Story and American Crime story, and now they have signed Game of Thrones showrunners David Benioff and DB Weiss for $200 million dollars. Their offseason signings over the last few years have commanded big money, and it is bad news for regular television.

If Netflix continues to pry away the best talent from the TV world to the streaming world, the TV companies will struggle to fine adequate talent and while being able to compete with the deals Netflix is dishing out. We may be starting to see a shift away from the top shows airing on network television or subscription services such as HBO, and more of the big action taking place on streaming services such as Netflix.

With Fox being bought out by Disney in 2018, the rights to the Marvel franchise went to Disney. At the time, Marvel still had shows like Luke Cage, Daredevil, and the Punisher among others streaming on Netflix. Disney had only just announced at the time that they were going to start a streaming service of their own (Disney+), and it’s unclear whether or not this announcement triggered Netflix to pull the plug on the Marvel series shows.

Regardless of why Netflix pulled the plug, Marvel was not expecting it, or at least not expecting it so soon. Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb had this to say.

“The hardest part was while the situation at Netflix, which I really can’t go into other than to say that we were blindsided and the things that were to come weren’t finished yet. We weren’t ready to announce that, so there was this space in between it, so it did look like maybe we were going to go out. Then suddenly, we were arising again like the Phoenix.”

The Marvel shows will land back on Disney+ when it drops this November, however it doesn’t seem like they’re thrilled about how it all ended with the streaming giant Netflix.

Facebook is set to launch a new service this fall codenamed ‘Catalina’, which will serve as a larger version of their current Facebook Portal. Portal is like an iPad that primarily serves for making video calls and listening to music.

Catalina will essentially be a bigger version of Portal. It will connect with your television, enabling video calls on a massive scale. The device will come with a remote and will steam to other boxes within the household much like Apple TV.

Facebook has approached some of the big names in tech and entertainment – Disney, Netflix, Amazon, Hulu and HBO – to discuss the prospect of having their services streamed across Catalina. Imagine video chatting with your friends while you are all watching the same movie.  FB is apparently not looking to create content, they seem happy to leave it to others in hopes that major streaming services sign on.  One notable exception is Google’s YouTube, which has apparently not been asked to join the party.  More specifics are expected as we approach this fall’s release date

A Closer Look

Jackie Brown – The release of Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood in July is likely to trigger a Tarantino binge for many, and while Jackie Brown is one of his older movies; it is still one of his best. Not for the weak-hearted, this movie of betrayal, schemes and deception will have viewers on the edge of their seats from start to finish. It is timeless Tarantino.

The Rocky Series – If you haven’t seen any of the Rocky movies, we’re not sure where you’ve been. If you have, there’s nothing like going back for a little refresher.  Personally, we believe the early Rocky¹s are the best of the bunch, but if you’re feeling adventurous, you can crank up all five in one sitting, just don¹t forget to bring snacks. Cue the theme song.

Something’s Gotta Give – Jack Nicholson and Diane Keaton should be enough to get you to watch this movie, aside from the fact that it is very well done. Perhaps more for the older crowd as a comedy / drama / romance movie, but we think it’s got something for everyone and recommend checking it out. Plus, a crazy Jack Nicholson face really never gets old.

Happy binging this August everybody!

According to an Elon Musk tweet a few days ago, Tesla’s high tech sport cars is about to get the “ability to stream YouTube and Netflix when car is stopped coming to your Tesla soon!” The car already has a massive LCD display screen and top-of-the-line audio. Sounds like a perfect way to watch a movie!

Tesla owners can already play select games while the car is stopped and now they’ll be the first with Netflix, YouTube and possibly Hulu among other streaming services.  They’ll never need to leave the car. What’s next? Perhaps a built in popcorn machine or espresso maker are on the horizon! Jokes aside, the whole drive in movie feeling can be taken to a new level with these additions. Imagine driving your Tesla (assuming you can afford one) to a quiet remote location, maybe with a view overlooking a city or mountains or beaches, and watching one of your favorite movies with a loved one. Pretty cool stuff. Musk hopes to one day have streaming available while the car’s in motion, but that’s in the future.

First things first.  In writing this article I tried to keep the important spoilers to a minimum, but if you don’t even want the slightest idea of what happened in Season 3 of Stranger Things, PLEASE DO NOT READ ANY FURTHER! Thank you!

As if the world of the Upside Down and the evil scientists of Hawkins Lab weren’t enough, Stranger Things Season 3 manages to kick it up yet another notch.

In this season we are faced with a new threat from the biggest villains of the 1980’s, the Russians.  We are also introduced to new love interests for Steve (sort of) and Dustin who together, remain a dynamic duo throughout season 3.   Although we’ve been devastated in the past by the deaths of beloved innocent characters such as Barb and Bob, this current season manages to stretch our heartstrings further than ever before.

This season is a bit of coming of age season as all the characters (and the actors who portray them in real life) are getting older and experiencing things they never had before.  In previous seasons, much of the conflict came from external causes that the team had to band together to defeat.  In this season you’ll see what them at odds with each other while trying to navigate the initial entrance into the dating world.  Mike and Elevens romance will start a split between the group which will only get worse once they break up.  Max actually breaks up with Lucas at the same time and this causes Eleven and Max to become best friends.

Honestly this season was heavily centered on romance, dating, and love.  Dustin, who just comes back from camp to begin the season, claims to have a girlfriend named Suzy but no one believes him after a failed attempt to contact her.  Spoiler alert, she is real, and she eventually plays a crucial role in the season.  Steve, who’s been working at Scoops Ahoy with our newest character Robin, is constantly striking out every time he makes an attempt to woe a woman.  Throughout the season and due to various conversations with Dustin, Steve eventually realizes that he actual has strong feelings for Robin.  After the 2 get close, Steve eventually professes his interest in Robin, which leads to an unexpected response from Robin.

Also, the chemistry between Hopper and Joyce continues through this season and manages to survive multiple pitfalls.  It’s obvious that Hopper has loved Joyce since they were young kids in Hawkins.  Joyce however, is still reeling off of the loss of Bob and has become scared of leaving herself vulnerable to heartbreak.  Hopper has a difficult time with this all season as he is at the same time learning how to parent a teenage girl who is anything but cooperative.

Matter of fact the only character throughout the show to not have any type of romantic interest or storyline is Will Byers.  Then again, will should probably be in a psych ward and traumatized beyond repair after the things he’s experienced.  Nevertheless, he finds himself in the middle of everything again as he still holds a connection between the Upside Down and reality.  Although this season was so concentrated on love stories, it still manages to pack a punch of intrigue, action, mystery and excitement.  It may very well be the best season

Netflix is treating some of their old Marvel series that have completed like an old car, scrap it, and sell it for parts. While these “old cars” were good for netflix in their days it’s time now to close the books on series such as Daredevil and Luke Cage, and get every last dollar out of it they can.

Clearly there is a market across Marvel superfans to buy items used in the series. For example, you could buy the Punisher’s actual mailbox for $300 if you are so intrigued to do so. If your pockets are deep, throw a bid in on some of the Daredevil costumes, they’re valued around $25,000 a piece.

The auction will be taking place on live television on August 12th and 13th. There are dozens of items listed up for auction which is being run through the host Prop Store. Take a look at some of the items listed and the details of the upcoming auction at this link. What would you be interested in buying if money wasn’t an issue?
